Smoking, toking, blazing, cheeching, whatever you may call it, cannabis inhalation has been around for hundreds of years. With the legalization of recreational or medical cannabis alternative delivery methods have been on the rise. There are three basic delivery methods: inhalation, oral and topical. Under each of these methods are various techniques that each deliver their own, unique results.

Inhalation Delivery Methods

When cannabis is inhaled, the gases enter the lungs before being absorbed by the bloodstream. There are two ways of inhalation: smoking and vaporization.

Smoking

Smoking cannabis is done through a variety of different methods, such as using hand pipes, water pipes, rolling papers, hookahs or homemade devices. Where the smoke is circulated through the piece and inhaled directly through the lungs.

Vaporization

Advances in vaporization technology have offered alternative ways of inhalation. Vaporization is said to have fewer health risks than pure smoking. A vaporizer steadily heats the herb to a temperature that is high enough to extract THC or CBD more easily. The temperature is then too low for other toxins to get in that can be released during combustion. Vaporization methods often have less of an odor and are more discreet than smoking with pipes or rolling papers.

Oral Delivery Methods

Often with oral delivery methods, the first thing we may think of is edibles, where cannabis is baked into food or put into a drink. These products have longer onsets and a more powerful full-body psychoactive effect. Aside from edibles, there are also ingestible oils that are another form of an oral delivery method. Ingestible oils are swallowed and digested like an infused product and can either be had in the form of the oil itself or put into capsules for an easier delivery method.

Topical Delivery Methods

Lastly, is topical cannabis administration. This is where the full cannabis extract is used, this is a thick oil that has been decarboxylated to activate cannabinoids. Once these cannabinoids are activated they can be absorbed through the skin. This is a popular method where consumers may need relief in a localized area, i.e., muscle aches and soreness.

No matter the relief you may need or preferred method of delivery, there is always a way to get the products you need.
